Mommin' Ain't Eazy

Image
It's been a while since I made myself sit down and type something out. Between moving to a new city, the gauntlet of holidays from Halloween through New Years, and just general life and motherhood, free minutes have been few and fleeting. I'm making a concerted effort to change that and for good reason. As a society, we talk a lot about motherhood and a lot that it entails; pregnancy, child birth and labor, breastfeeding, and the topic of postpartum depression is even becoming much more mainstream. We celebrate the magic and the hard work that encompasses being a mom, but there's one thing we don't really discuss; the loneliness.  As moms, we give everything we have for our children and our family. We sacrifice our bodies, our health and even our sanity at times to make sure those growing little people are happy, safe, and secure. And for the most part, we do it willingly. But sometimes that means sacrificing those little pleasures we cherished before kids. A lot of th...

It's Fall Y'all!

It's officially the start of the best season of the year. Cooler breezes, beautiful colors, and of course, Halloween! While I love being able to go out during the summer, the Ohio humidity is not my friend, so when September rolls around, I'm one happy momma.  We've had some big changes in the past few months. We moved to a new city into a fantastic new house of our own and we could not be more happy about it. The area is absolutely perfect. Middle, Little and I have been exploring and going on new adventures.  Don't let Middle's face fool you, he's actually really excited too 😂 So it's no secret that Momma loves Halloween. From about September 1 through October 31st is spooky season in our house. Decorations, trick or treat events, fall festivals, the whole nine yards. To be honest, I start planning family costumes in March 😂 While I've been decorating and crafting already, I hadn't yet taken the boys on any fall related outings yet. Today's ...

Always an Adventure

Well, I tried, but I failed. I set my silly goal of celebrating 365 oddball holidays with the littles, but by mid-April, we had stopped. Life happened, my planning calendar got set to the side, and Momma no longer knew what crazy day it was anymore. Little turned one, found his feet and took off like a rocket, literally.  I was not prepared for two highly rambunctious, constantly moving toddlers. And to be honest, I'm still not....but we get through the days.  Ten minutes alone in their room and the destruction duo has left their mark With all the new energy in the house, coming up with specific themed activities was one more thing that I barely had time for and got pushed to the side, just like long showers, peeing alone, and any chance of ever sleeping through the night again. That doesn't mean we weren't still doing fun activities. They just weren't the quirky themed, day specific ones.  The point of the goal was to teach the littles that there's something to cel...

Pennies, Football, Love, and Hippos. Oh My!

Hoping to get caught up on all our adventures soon!  February 12: National Lost Penny Day Who doesn't have a million pennies rolling around the bottom of their purse or car? I feel like you can find them just about everywhere. At our house a lot of those pennies end up in one of the kids' piggy banks because there's just not a lot else to do with those things. Today's holiday is about gathering up the abandoned and lost coins. I decided to turn it into a scavenger hunt for Middle. I could have easily hidden a bunch of actual pennies around the house, but with as bad as my memory is, we'd have been searching for them for months. I decided instead to make larger paper versions and put them in various spots around the house. I made 6 and hid them throughout our downstairs rooms while Middle napped. When Middle woke up, I showed him a real penny and explained that it was a kind of money. His immediate response was "That's money" much to Papa's delight....

Let's rewind a bit...

I previously skipped a blog because we were waiting on all recipients to be surprised. After today, we can finally post about... January 31: Inspire Your Heart With Art Day! Knowing that Valentine's Day was coming up, Middle and I decided to use this day to make some cards for a few special people in his life. If you didn't receive a card, please don't be offended, Momma could only draw so many and Middle's little fingers could only color for so long! As per usual, while Middle napped, Momma got to work on creating his Valentines. We went with a corny joke theme. When he woke, I helped him write his name on each card. I only had time to photograph 3 cards before an impatient Middle swiped one to get started on coloring! He colored each card and when he decided he was done, he would bring them to me in exchange for the next. Then he thought long and hard about who he wanted to give each card to and we wrote out their names on the back. He also got to deliver all the car...
