Cute and cuddly, boys. Cute and cuddly.

Can you keep a secret, my monochromatic friend? Today is....

January 20: Penguin Awareness Day

"There are currently over 18 different known species of penguin and some of them have been around the planet for well over 65 million years." Their numbers, however, are dwindling every year and so Penguin Awareness Day was created to shed some light on this issue.  Just like with Winnie the Pooh, I thought it was best to start Middle off with a visual of what we're celebrating. So we watched Penguins of Madagascar.

He dug it. Not one mention of trains ๐Ÿ˜‚

Afterwards it was time to don the smock and get painting.

I cut out the penguin body shape and glued it to a larger piece of construction paper, then turned Middle loose.

Once he was satisfied with his paint, I dried it around the top and bottom with my hair dryer and applied the beak and the feet. We decided to add googley eyes instead of paper ones. I think it gives him more character.

I was a little disappointed with how much the fingerpaint "disappeared" after it dried for a bit. The set we have is a about 3 years old, however, so it could be the end of it's life. Middle and I just have an excuse now to upgrade our supplies.
