Crikey! It's Australia Day!
Let's not be carrying on like a porkchop and give it a burl!
January 26: Australia Day
Much like our Columbus Day, Australia Day commemorates the date on which the first British ships arrived on Australian shores. Also much like Columbus Day, the date has had it's share of controversy due to the impact of the new settlers on the native population. Some have began using the day to celebrate the uniquely Australian culture.
Middle's too young at this point to comprehend or appreciate a good history lesson, so until we get to that point, a fun craft will have to suffice. My original intention was to make a traditional rain stick.
However, upon inspection of my craft supplies, I realized we had used the last of my saved paper towel rolls to wrap Christmas lights for storage. The roll in the kitchen still had a fairly decent amount of paper towels on it. So Momma had to create a backup plan. Once Middle and Little were down for their afternoon nap, I drew a quick koala coloring page for Middle.
When he woke up, I let him color to his heart's content.
He was so proud of his "painting" that he had to show me after he was finished with each color. Once he was satisfied, we hung his picture up so everyone could see. He kept running in and pointing to it saying "I did that!"
Next we fired up Netflix and settled down to watch a cute movie called "Back to the Outback" about a group of animals who escape from an animal park and try to return to their outback homes. He loved it.... Not one mention of trains 😂
Of course, after the day was done, our paper towel roll was empty. I still really want to make the rain stick with Middle, I think he'll enjoy it. We'll have to find time on a not so busy day coming up.
