Batch of the Day

There's two types of people in this world; people who like brownies and liars...

January 22: National Blonde Brownie Day

We are most definitely a brownie family, or for that matter, any type of sweets. So I knew Middle was going to like this holiday. For those who aren't familiar, a blondie brownie is very similar to a regular brownie but uses brown sugar instead of cocoa. One of the first recipes published for blondies was in 1896 in Fannie Farmer's Boston Cookbook.

We found our recipe on Pinterest, of course. It was pretty simple, so Middle got to help with 90% of the steps.

You can find the full recipe we used here

One of our first steps was to melt some butter. I cut the stick up into smaller, easier to handle pieces and Middle puts them in a bowl.

Once in our bowl, Middle is able to open the microwave, put the bowl in, close the door and press the button to start it. While the butter was melting, I started giving Middle some of our dry ingredients to dump into our mixing bowl. This recipe calls for everything to be whisked together, which is nice because Middle is not a fan of the electric mixer.  After adding our ingredients in the bowl, he got to mix them up.

Next came the very best part of baking, adding the sweet stuff. Middle had to taste test a few of the chocolate chips before mixing them into our batter.

Once satisfied that we were only putting in the best chocolate, we mixed one final time and then transferred our batter to the baking dish and then topped it off with a few more chips before putting it in the oven to bake.

Thirty minutes later, the kitchen smelled amazing and Middle was ready to eat!

Special thanks to Papa R for capturing most of our pictures this evening so Momma could focus on getting Middle's next ingredient ready.
