Oh, the Places We'll Go!

It's been awhile since I posted. Between the hustle and bustle of hosting Thanksgiving and getting ready for Christmas, I haven't really had a moment where I wasn't doing something. I've been working hard on some more "mommy projects" and finally starting to finish some of them. This one is definitely one of my favorites.

I've said before, I want to instill into the boys that life is about the adventures we take and the people we surround ourselves with. I came across this quote while surfing Pinterest (of course, right?)

Being that Christmas is right around the corner, it was fitting. I wanted to do something special for all the boys that wasn't just a bunch of stuff under the tree that they'll no doubt forget about in 6 months. And so, a new family tradition is born.

That Hobby Lobby purchased box contains a year of making memories. Twelve family activity/adventure days, one for each month. I spent several naptimes, evenings after the kids were asleep and a few Saturday afternoons making pages detailing each activity.

When the boys open the box, they will find this note explaining the gift

Under the note are twelve plain and sealed envelopes which contain the pages. The pages themselves are various cardstock/scrapbook page backgrounds and they are decorated with construction paper and marker. I hand cut and glued each piece into place.

I purposely left open spaces at the bottom of each white square so that I can write in the date on which the activity takes place. What I'm not telling the boys is that these pages will eventually become 1/2 of a scrapbook. The other half will be pictures we take while on our adventures. Once our box is finished, we'll have a complete scrapbook of a year's memories. I plan to put that book into the box next year and refill the envelopes for another year. I hope to continue the tradition as Big, Middle, and Little grow so that they can look back one day at all the years of memories and of stores to tell.
