Fall Craft Wrap Up

Thanksgiving week was a busy one in our house between cleaning, grocery shopping, and crafting.

Middle got to make three fall/Thanksgiving crafts and was loving it all.

I already posted about his adorable windsock. Our next project was a turkey suncatcher to hang in our big dining room window.

We got all of our crafting supplies at Dollar Tree as usual. A roll of transparent contact paper, tissue paper in fall colors, and construction paper was all we needed.

I started out by giving Middle large squares of tissue paper and instructing him to rip it up into smaller pieces. He wasn't sure about the tearing process, but we settled for momma holding the paper while he happily pulled off pieces.

I set the pieces aside and quickly cut out the outline of a turkey's tail from construction paper. I also cut out a peanut shaped head and neck, then added a face and set it aside.

Next I cut a square of the contact paper just slightly bigger than the turkey outline and peeled the backing off. Laying flat on the table, I carefully laid the outline onto the sticky side of the paper. Middle then got to take his tissue paper pieces and stick them inside the outline. Once he filled the entire space, I laid the turkey head/neck into place and placed a second sheet of contact paper on top to seal it all in.

I plan to do another one of these with Middle, but in the shape of a Christmas tree for this month.

Our final project was creating centerpieces for the dinner table. Back during Halloween, I purchased a bag of mini pumpkins for Middle. He ended up painting most of them, but I saved the two biggest. They sat on a shelf in our dining room, both as a simple Halloween decoration and to wait for their turn to be used in a craft.

Using the same construction paper, I traced Middle's hand onto three different colors of paper and cut two hands of each. Then I made two small turkey head/necks. Middle then helped me attach the heads onto the front of the pumpkin. We fanned out three hands and glued them together as a tail, then attached them to the pumpkins as well. Turkey pumpkin centerpieces which sat by the salt and pepper on our dinner table!
