Train or Treat!

Tonight was the Trunk or Treat event at Sharon Woods. I can honestly say it was extremely well done. From the easy to follow trail, the organization of waves of kids, and of course, the treats, it was the best event we've been to so far.

Middle and I practiced all day on saying "Trick or Treat." He's insistent that's it's simply "Treat" and already knows that gets him candy. How he learned "candy" this quick is beyond me because we really haven't given him much, if any, up to this point. Kids🤷

We loaded up Thomas, got Little dressed, and headed south to meet Papa R after work to start our treating during our assigned time slot. The people at check-in were very impressed with Middle's engineer prowess and offered to take our picture.

Unfortunately Little is just a little too little to be seen over Thomas' sides, so we took a separate picture for him.

Time slots were assigned for every 15 minutes so I initially assumed we'd be finished fairly quickly, but the trail was longer than I expected and we spent about 30 minutes collecting treats from police and firemen, petting K9 units, checking out boats and "dig digs," and admiring all the really awesome decorated trunks.

Middle decided to carry his new Thomas basket that his aunt made him. The treats were so plentiful that Momma needed to empty his basket into the diaper bag a couple times.

It was later than I anticipated when we finally got packed up and ready to go home, so I got Middle his favorite, nugs and fries, on the way, with the promise that if he finished, we would get some candy from his basket. I have never seen that kid eat faster.

We decided to try M&Ms for the first time. Middle was hesitant at first, content just to tell me what colors they were. Momma had to bite into one to show him, but after that, I blinked and the whole bag was consumed.

After inhaling his candy, he came to me looking for more. We decided to try a Rollo next. I wasn't sure how he'd respond to the caramel but after he nearly took the tip of my finger off chomping down, I'm going to say it was a win.

Now prior to tonight, I couldn't have told you what was the appropriate serving size for toddlers and candy. However, I now know that a bag of M&Ms and a Rollo are over that amount. Middle proceeded to achieve sugary high euphoria and completed a minimum of 15 laps around the entire downstairs. I suppose those got tiresome, because then he started just spinning in place, before shooting off again. Even as I write this now from bed, I can hear his feet pattering around his room and have to remind him every so often that it is, in fact, way past bedtime. Perhaps Momma will get lucky and he'll sleep a little later tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed everyone!
