Paintin' Punkins
Today's quickie craft post:
Pinterest is my best friend when it comes to planning activities to keep Middle entertained and active. So when he enjoyed painting his pumpkin so much during Channel the Flannel, I figured we were going to have to do more at home. I started searching through pins and came across one for these really neat looking marbled ones. They're made by swirling nail polish in water then dipping the pumpkins. While I haven't ruled out trying it myself, it isn't necessarily the best method for a bouncy, energetic two year old.
I decided instead of shooting for a particular look, we'd just wing it and see how they came out. Kroger has a pack of 8 mini pumpkins for $5 and we already had bottles of washable neon paint from another craft, purchased from Dollar Tree. I held back the biggest two pumpkins from the bunch for myself and had to toss one that was beginning to mold.
We started out by putting blobs of each color paint around a paper plate. Middle, armed with his brush that he was gifted at Channel the Flannel, decided to go ahead and swirl the colors on the plate before attacking the pumpkin. While not quite as refined as the nail polish design, he effectively created his own style of marbled pumpkin without my help and had an absolute blast doing it. By the end, we were both covered in paint, but he has 5 brightly colored, unique pumpkins to decorate the house.
