Four Alarm Fun!

Today was the opening of a brand new fire station nearby and they had a public open house! Middle has been increasingly interested in firetrucks so it was a perfect mid-afternoon adventure. It was a little chilly today (finally some fall feeling weather!) so we bundled up in our best fire gear.

It just so happens that the open hours fell along the same time that Papa R takes his lunch break AND it was a few roads over from his shop, so we swung by to grab him on our way. Middle was just as excited to see daddy as he was the trucks. While we were waiting for daddy to finish up and clock out, we saw an engine drive by with lights and sirens, obviously on a call.

The station was absolutely gorgeous inside! Middle got to meet and high five the captain along the way. He complemented Middle on his fashion choice for the day.

We ventured out into the area where the firetrucks usually sit. They had the trucks outside so that we could look around. We were able to see all the gear that the firefighters wear.

While we were exploring, the truck that passed us on the road returned to the station so the boys got to watch as they backed in with their lights flashing. Middle was pretty excited, Little...not so much.

The department was very welcoming. They had chili cooking in the kitchen and a table full of giveaways. The kids got a firetruck hot/cold ouchie pack and Middle was especially ecstatic to get a squishy firetruck. Papa R got a new coffee mug...that Momma might just borrow from time to time.

After snagging his goodies, it was time to take Middle outside for the main attraction....the trucks!
He got to get up close and touch two engines.

After we loaded back into the car, we took Papa R for some food before dropping him back off at work. Middle was so happy about his squishy truck, he refused to put it down, even while eating. It was a quick visit, but one that Middle still hasn't stopped jabbering about.
